User moment of the day...

Today is the day after. Technically yesterday was the day after, but yesterday being Sunday was a completely uneventful day after as there were no users to initiate all of the headaches that the day after generally produces. Saturday we migrated our users, computers, file shares, etc from the old Windows 2000 domain to the new Windows 2003 domain. Today the users were here...

I won't actually get into it here because it was enough to have gone through the experience in real life and I don't at this time wish to relive everything in writing but I'll share the brilliance of one female (and I am not make any allusions here... the user merely happened to be female) Finance department employee. Last Wednesday IT sent out a notice to all corporate users that we needed laptops to remain if at all possible at the office over the weekend so that we could get to them in order to migrate them to the new domain. She was one of the few who disregarded the notice. Today when she came down to inquire why her laptop couldn't be logged into the network, we asked her why she took it home on Friday. Her response was... "Well I didn't take it home! I turned it off and locked it in my desk drawer for safety and privacy. I thought just having it in the building would meet your requirements. You should have made the email more explicit."

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Wwwwwoooooooooowwwwww! Lemme guess, this female is blonde. We might require a picture for verification purposes. That's really priceless, man. And you need say no more. No wonder you had a headache at the end of the day.

LOL! Is it because she is a user? a woman? or in Finance? Hmmm...

I hadn't considered earlier how this female is in the finance department. Percussivity, you'd better double check your next pay check to make sure it's actually a real check and that it doesn't just magically appear like she expected her laptop to magically be updated while locked away in a desk drawer unconnected to your network. I mean, I'm just sayin'. Man this really is priceless.

heh heh... well I think she is in Fixed Assets rather than payroll, but good thought. She has dark hair but who's to say she didn't color it.

Another funny thing was that yesterday when I was migrating the HR manager's computer (he was one we knew would be taking his laptop over the weekend) he and one of the other HR workers were just hanging out in his office dishing about various remote office employees who were going to be fired over this or that and they talked quite a lot about sensativity training. I just kept seeing visions of The Office in my head and it was hard to keep a straight face while working.

You'll have to watch the episode of the British office with the IT guy. The American office, with the Sikh dude that Michael repeatedly offends, is much nicer to IT guys.

I think it is Season Two, Episode Four where Simon, the IT nerd, comes around to work on the computers, and his exchanges with Gareth are terribly funny.

Oh, by the way, I got the Douglas Adams anthology. Interestingly enough it is printed and bound just like a Bible, on thin gold edged paper with a thick black leather cover. I haven't gotten much past the preface yet (late night) but it should make good tending-the-smoker reading. Of course, with it looking like a Bible, I can just see my neighbors coming over, saying, "is that a Bible? what must I do to be saved? Will you take me through the Romans Road?" and I say, "errrrr...well, not exactly, this is one of those heathen translations, let me go run and get the REAL one..." Hehehe.
